The collection contains materials collected by Lois LaBeau about the history of Old Town and Orono, Maine. Most of the collection consists of photographs of individuals and scenes in the two towns, including a train accident in Orono in 1898 on the Maine Central Railroad, photographs of pupils in Orono schools in 1885 and 1924, logging on the Penobscot River, St. Mary's Church in Orono, and photographs of a play at Old Town High School in 1925. Several photographs of Indians are also included. A scrapbook with newspaper clippings about soldiers from Orono serving in World War II as well as clippings about Orono history and about the 1937 Brady gang shootout in Bangor, Maine, is also included. A wooden peg from a covered bridge in Orono, a few programs for community activities, and miscellaneous newspaper clippings are also found in the collection.

In 1845 the Androscoggin & Kennebec Railroad was chartered to build a line from Danville Junction on the Atlantic & St. Lawrence (Grand Trunk) to Waterville, and the Penobscot & Kennebec Railroad was chartered to extend the Androscoggin & Kennebec line to Bangor. The former line was completed to Waterville in 1849, and the first train entered Bangor over the latter road in August, 1855.
